The California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, commonly known as Proposition 65, requires businesses to provide a clear and reasonable warning before knowingly and intentionally exposing anyone to a listed chemical. Proposition 65 currently lists approximately 900 chemicals that are known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
HART Industrial Unions manufactures industrial pipe unions in a range of base metal alloys—including Brass C36000, Brass C46400, 303 Stainless, A182 F304 Stainless, A182 F316 Stainless, 12L14 Carbon Steel, A105/A350-LF2 Carbon Steel, Monel 400, Hastelloy C276, 90/10 Copper-Nickel (C70600), 70/30 Copper-Nickel (C71500), and Aluminum 6061—paired with a variety of elastomeric sealing elements. Our sealing materials—including Viton (FKM-A), Viton Type B (FKM-B), PTFE, Buna-N (Nitrile), Kalrez 4079 (FFKM), EPDM, Silicone, Aflas, and Spiralwound Graphite Gaskets—may contain one or more chemicals on the Proposition 65 list.
Every component of mixing compound entering our suppliers' facilities has been audited, including all Safety Data Sheets and Certificates of Analysis, to prevent any material on the SVHC list under REACH and RoHS2 compliance. However, as it is not feasible to test against all chemicals on the Proposition 65 list, HART Industrial Unions has elected to provide this warning based on the premise that one or more chemicals from said list may be an ingredient in one or more of our products. Exposure to these chemicals may be under the Proposition 65 levels of concern, or could be zero, but out of necessary caution we have elected to publish this notice.
The following table identifies Proposition 65 listed chemicals that may be present in the elastomeric sealing elements used in our products. These chemicals are generally bound within the polymer matrix of the finished product and are not expected to result in significant exposure during normal industrial use.

The chemicals listed above are generally present as bound components within the elastomer matrix or as residual monomers from the manufacturing process. Under normal conditions of industrial use, these chemicals are not released at levels that would require a Proposition 65 warning. This notice is provided out of an abundance of caution.
The following table identifies Proposition 65 listed chemicals that may be present in the base metal alloys used for our pipe union bodies. In their finished solid form, these metals are bound within the alloy matrix and are not expected to result in significant exposure during normal industrial use.

† Stainless steel alloys contain metallic nickel and chromium. Per the Specialty Steel
Industry of North America (SSINA), stainless steel alloys are not subject to Proposition 65 warnings.
The Proposition 65 nickel listing is limited to soluble nickel compounds; metallic nickel bound in
the alloy matrix is not the listed form. Chromium in stainless steel is trivalent (Cr III), not the
hexavalent form (Cr VI) listed under Proposition 65.
‡ Monel 400 contains approximately 63% metallic nickel. The OEHHA Proposition 65
listing for nickel is limited to soluble nickel compounds (October 2018 clarification). Metallic nickel
in the finished alloy is not the listed form and does not leach under normal industrial service conditions.
§ Copper-nickel alloys contain 10–30% metallic nickel. The OEHHA carcinogen listing
for nickel excludes nickel alloys (consistent with the SSINA position on specialty steels). The nickel in
these alloys is in bound metallic form and is not a soluble nickel compound as defined under the October 2018
OEHHA clarification.
NSF/ANSI 61 Certified EPDM O-Rings available upon request. For potable water applications or where regulatory requirements specify NSF-61 compliance, HART Industrial Unions offers NSF-61 approved EPDM o-ring sealing elements as an alternative. Contact us at 1-800-769-0503 or [email protected] for availability.
Brass C36000 contains approximately 3% lead and 12L14 Carbon Steel contains approximately 0.15–0.35% lead by weight. Lead is added to these alloys to improve machinability. In their finished solid form, lead is metallurgically bound within the alloy matrix. HART Industrial Unions provides lead-free alternatives for applications where lead content is a concern—including Brass C46400 (Naval Brass), A182 F304/F316 Stainless Steel, and A105/A350-LF2 Carbon Steel. Contact us for guidance on material selection.
This notice is consistent with the Proposition 65 declarations issued by our sealing component suppliers, including Parker Hannifin Corporation (O-Ring & Engineered Seals Division) and Global O-Ring and Seal, LLC, both of whom maintain blanket Proposition 65 disclosures across their elastomeric product lines.
